IBM Launches Power7 Processor and Systems

Posted: 07 Feb 2010 11:36 PM PST
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/techiebuzz/~3/8eyhiOo-kwU/ibm-launches-power7-processor-and-systems.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email

With the launch of a new chip today called Power7, IBM plans to enter the
high-end server market currently ruled by HP. The new chip introduced by
IBM would have eight processing cores in each chip, allowing each core to
execute 4 tasks simultaneously as compared to Intels high-end Xeon
processor that only accommodates two tasks per core.

IBM will also launch a number of systems based on the Power7 chip including
an IBM Power 780, IBM Power 770 and IBM Power 755 systems. Both 780 band
770 systems will feature 64 Power7 cores and the 755 system would feature
32 Power7 cores. IBM also claims that the new Power7 processors would
consume only half the energy of previous Power6 processors while delivering
twice the performance. Along with new processors, the Power7 systems will
also offer various performance-increasing features such as the TurboMode
that will help the systems optimize their workload.

The launch of these new systems from IBM would heat up the war with HP
which is also supposed to announce the next generation version of Intels
Itanium chip called Tukwila, on Feb 8th 2010. Not to forget that both IBM
and HP have serious competition from Oracle, who enters the high-end server
market after acquiring Sun Microsystems and its SPARC/Solaris line of
hardware, earlier this year.

Google Super Bowl XLIV 2010 Commercial

Posted: 07 Feb 2010 07:37 PM PST
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/techiebuzz/~3/qGnebvFd5Lk/google-super-bowl-xliv-2010-commercial.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email

For the first time in Googles and Super Bowl history, Google ran a
commercial during the 3rd quarter of Super Bowl XLIV (44). The ad focused
on how easy it was to search and showed users on how easy it was to find
things in Paris, France.

Though the ad was definitely perplexing as it was Super Bowl, it definitely
was cute and showed how easy it was to find things using Google, and
focused on search, maps, dictionary and Wikipedia.

If you havent been able to watch the ad during the Super Bowl, you can
watch it over again by viewing the embedded video below.

What do you think of the Google Super Bowl ad? Did you like it? Did you
hate it? Do let me know through your comments. Dont forget to watch the
rest of the Super Bowl commercials, dont know how? Check out our earlier
post on where to watch the Super Bowl 2010 commercials online.

Watch Super Bowl XLIV 2010 Ads on Hulu and YouTube

Super Bowl XLIV is done and one of my favorite team the New Orleans Saints
won. However, what makes Super Bowl even more interesting is the
adverts/commercials that play during the breaks. Super Bowl 2010 saw the
debut of a Google ad on TV, though it was a bit weird that Google actually
promoted Paris during Super Bowl, it was cute nevertheless.

If you did not have the chance to catch up with Super Bowl, or missed the
commercials, here is your chance to watch all the Super Bowl XLIV
commercials all over again.

Hulu, the popular service which allows you watch television shows has all
the Super Bowl ads that were aired in 2010, to view the ads, head over to
http://www.hulu.com/adzone. Enjoy, and let the Saints go marching in .

You can also watch all the Super Bowl 2010 commercials on YouTube by

Lupo Pensuite Provides 200 Important Software for your USB Drive

Posted: 07 Feb 2010 03:19 PM PST
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/techiebuzz/~3/cs8KfpSY5Ms/lupo-pensuite-provides-200-important-software-for-your-usb-drive.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email

Working on multiple computers can be difficult at times. You have all your
software applications, browser extensions and files on your PC and suddenly
you face a situation where you have no other option but to work on a shared
computer. The worst part is that you may not have admnistrative priviledges
and thus cant install software in the shared system.

In such situations, I rely on Portable Apps and Lupo Pensuite two awesome
portable application packages which help you get the job done. After
loading a portable suite on your USB stick, you have a browser, word
processor, PDF viewer, media players, image editor and possibly every piece
of software installed and ready to use from the removable drive.

Download Lupo Pensuite
Installation of Lupo PenSuite

Installing the program is easy because you only need to double click the
exceutable and choose a location for the files to get extracted. You can
install the suite on a local folder and copy all the contents of the folder
into a USB drive. Double click the Lupo Pensuite icon and you will see the
following interface:

Features of Lupo Pensuite

Lupo Pensuite comes in two packages Full and Lite. I installed the full
version to try out all the features of Lupo Pensuite.

Browser: The most important program anyone needs is a browser. Lupo
Pensuite offers the portable version of Firefox 3.6 and Opera 10. Install
the suite and you are all set to enjoy the Firefox extensions that you use
on a daily basis.

Email client: Lupo Pensuite uses Thunderbird as a default email client and
you can also choose Pop Peeper as an email notifier.

Instant Messaging: Wow! Pidgin, Meebo and PixaMsn. Did I said it all?

P2P, FTP: Portable torrent clients such as utorrent and Emule are provided
so you can download all the torrents easily. Filezilla portable is included
in the suite for all your FTP jobs.

Media Players: VLC media player and Smplayer are the default mediaplayer
application in Lupo Pensuite.

Image Editor: Irfan view, GIMP to name a few.

Screen Capture: Pickpick and Faststone capture.

These are only a few tools included in the full suite. You can read about
the entire list here.
Techie Buzz Verdict

Lupo PenSuite contains all the important programs you use everyday. I
prefer this suite over Portable apps because it has so many options and
features to choose from. You can install or remove specific programs and
there are no drawbacks found.

Techie Buzz rating: 5/5 (perfect).

Twitter Reactions: See Twitter Reactions of a Webpage From Google Chrome

Posted: 07 Feb 2010 08:00 AM PST
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/techiebuzz/~3/3WsmfY8nVhY/twitter-reactions-see-twitter-reactions-of-a-webpage-from-google-chrome.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email

You may know about web services that lets you see who favorited your
tweets. But what about reading all the tweets, RTs about a particular page
from Google Chrome? What if you could see who first retweeted a page?
Twitter Reactions, an extension for Google Chrome lets you achieve the same
with almost zero effort.

Install Twitter Reactions extension for Google Chrome

Once the extension is installed, click the small Twitter button placed at
the right of the Chrome address bar. You will see a vertical grid
consisting of all the Twitter juice about the current page.

The tweets are arranged in ascending order, which means the recent tweets
are thrown at the top. Apart from reading the tweet, you can click through
the links in the Twitter reaction grid to open the profile of the person
who twitted that link.

But how many tweets? Well, I tried the extension on this page and found
more than 20 tweets stacked in the order they were tweeted. Twitter
reactions is a great way to see the archive of tweets that have gathered
over time on any given web page. If you have a blog and want to know which
of the pages in your site gets Twitter attention, this tool is a must use.
Techie Buzz Verdict

The extension solves the problem of manual checking, but a little more
creativity would have been perfect. I would love to see a counter showing
the number of tweets so that I do not have to reload the grid and count the
retweets on my own.

Techie Buzz rating: 4/5 (Excellent).

Optimize Windows 7 Services with SMART

Posted: 07 Feb 2010 06:00 AM PST
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/techiebuzz/~3/rq3ovqt3qDU/tweak-windows-7-services-smart.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email

Windows Operating System has been designed to be suitable for almost anyone
and everyone. However, there are always disadvantages associated with the
one-size fits all approach. Windows ships with dozens services many of
which common users do not require. Disabling these unnecessary services
helps in reducing boot time and increases general system performance.

Over the years, BlackViper has earned a reputation for providing in-depth
and accurate advisory on tweaking Windows System services. You can find his
excellent guide on optimizing Windows 7 services over here. However,
manually tweaking your system can be time consuming. In order to speed up
this process TheWindowsClub has released SMART (Service Management And
RealEasy Tweaking).

SMART automatically optimizes your services configuration in accordance to
BlackVipers guide. You are provided three presets Safe, Tweaked and
Advanced. As the name suggests, Safe is intended to work on most PCs and
disables only the absolutely useless services. The Tweaked configuration
takes things to the next level and changes a total of 57 service settings
(compared to 19 in Safe). Advanced mode is designed for gamers who seek
extreme performance, even at the expense of functionality. This
configuration is not recommended unless you know what you are doing.
Several features including Wireless Networking, Windows Defender and
Windows Update are disabled in this mode.
Techie Buzz Verdict

SMART doesnt do anything you cant do manually, but it helps you in getting
things done faster. The main reason why you might want to use SMART is that
in case things go wrong, you can get back your default configuration with
the click of a button. It is also a handy utility to carry while you visit
your friends and family during the holidays.

Techie Buzz Rating: 3/5 (Good)
